Leading with Humility

In the tapestry of leadership virtues, humility stands as a cornerstone that elevates and transforms the very essence of what God has called us to do in HIS name. Here’s what the Bible has to say today:

📖 Philippians 2:3-4 (NLT):

"Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too."

This scripture encapsulates the essence of humility in leadership. Here's why leading with humility is pivotal, along with some examples from biblical leaders:

1. Servant Leadership Model: Jesus, the ultimate example of humility, washed the feet of His disciples. He was born in a barn and laid in a troff wrapped in rags to sleep. A leader's heart is revealed in acts of service and a willingness to do things some might deem improper or beneath you; placing the needs of others above personal ambitions and status.

2. Moses - A Humble Servant-Leader: Despite his role as a great leader chosen by God, Moses was described as the most humble person on earth (Numbers 12:3). His humility allowed God to work through him mightily.

3. David's Heart of Humility: Before becoming king, David humbly served as a shepherd. His humility allowed him to acknowledge his dependence on God, even in the face of great challenges.

4. Mary's Submission and Humility: Mary, the mother of Jesus, displayed profound humility when she accepted God's plan for her life. There were rumors and scandals that had to be spoken about her throughout the whole pregnancy. Her willingness to submit to God's will is a testament to humble leadership.

- Active Listening: Humility involves actively listening to the needs and concerns of others, fostering an inclusive and collaborative leadership style.

- Acknowledging Mistakes: Leaders who admit mistakes and seek improvement cultivate an environment of trust and authenticity. Someone told me recently, “Good leaders share success, and shoulder the mess”.

- Empowering Others: Humble leaders empower and uplift those around them, recognizing the collective strength of a team.

- Gratitude and Appreciation: Expressing gratitude and appreciating the contributions of others fosters a culture of humility and mutual respect.
